I CANNOT believe that summer 2018 has already come and gone! With the sticky 90 degree temperatures sticking around, I'm holding onto the last bits of summer as much as possible. Whether your a teacher, student, or average Joe, the end of August and beginning of September always seems like a chance for another midyear fresh start. With fall just around the corner, it can leave any fashionista itching for a wardrobe update. As a teacher, I always use this time of year as an excuse to update my look and add a few new pieces to my collection. :)
It can easy to go overboard with trends each season, not only is this costly, but you will find those pieces left untouched 6 months later in the back of your closet. In today's post, I'm going to share a few tips on how to update your look without overspending and overwhelming your closet.
3 Simple Steps to Update Your Wardrobe:
1. Refresh the basics if necessary!
Purchasing basic pieces is a great way to invest. These are items that can be rotated throughout seasons and can also be styled to match a variety of occasions. Think a great pair of jeans, a black t-shirt dress, or a comfortable cardigan!
2. Purchase a few on-trend items!
When out shopping, you may be overwhelmed with sifting through racks of the latest "trendy" clothes. Don't be tempted to purchase everything! Stick to just a few items that you know you'll get use out of and that are versatile. One way I love updating my wardrobe is my picking out a few on-trend blouses or dresses that are unique and eye catching!
3. Add updated accessories to your closet!
Accessories are the MOST fun! Who can say no to a fabulous pair of shoes?! With a new season upon us, you can do a quick wardrobe refresh by adding a new pair of shoes, earrings, and scarves to update your look. When you limit yourself to a few items, you won't overspend. A quick accessory update doesn't have to cost more than $75.

For this casual back to school look, I decided to mix a neutral color palette with interesting details to create a fun look. The choker collar of the dress, combined with the bow detail of the dress add some style to a rather simple look. For accessories, I kept in simple sticking to one statement piece, which was the earrings. Not only is this dress extremely soft and comfortable, it's also very versatile and easy to dress up!
