With Valentine’s Day around the corner, I know there are date nights galore being planned. Whether you’re single and ready to mingle or happily in a relationship, I know every fashionista comes to the dilemma of what to wear on date night! Nothing worse than standing in front of your closet overwhelmed and thinking “I have nothing to wear!” while your closet is teeming with clothes.
This week’s post will hopefully give you some creative outfit ideas to wear on any date night occasion, along with encouragement that many of these pieces may already be in your closet! Sometimes it’s not about finding a new outfit, but creating a killer outfit out of items that you already have. Refuse the impulse to go out to the store and buy something new and see what may already lie within your closet.
Great Date Night Looks for Any Occasion:
The casual date night:
If you’re going on a simple date to a casual restaurant, the movies, or local bar, you’re going to want to dress it down. This doesn’t mean you have to look like a frump though! Resist the yoga pants, please! A perfect outfit for this occasion could include, a simple sweater or fun blouse with ripped jeans and booties or flats. Dress comfortably and casually, but don’t be afraid to throw some style in there! Accessories can be minimal, like a simple long pendant.
The dinner date night:
For a date night that is a little more on the fancier side, you may want to dress it up a bit. In my book, there’s nothing worse than being underdressed! You’ll want an outfit that’s appropriate but not too fancy. Some ideas for an occasion such as this would be: a tunic and heeled booties, an off the shoulder top and black jeans, or a shift dress with a statement necklace. You can definitely have a little bit more fun with accessories. Depending on your outfit choice, a statement necklace, bold earrings, and stackable bangles would be perfect! Mix and matching a more formal piece, with a more casual piece makes for a great outfit, like jeans and a silk blouse.
The extravagant date night:
Now dates like these are super fun for all the fashionistas of the world! It’s a chance to dress up and step out of our ordinary wardrobe. This is a time to dress to impress and spice things up! Wearing a dress is a must for any extravagant occasion. A fun cocktail or evening dress, paired with the perfect accessories, and a killer shoe will do! Dresses with unique fabrics, necklines, or shilouettes are great! You’ll want something that is different and stands out. You may have a dress in your closet already that fits this occasion, possibly from a wedding or special event. Reinvent it with some different accessories and you’re good to go!
No matter what kind of date you have planned for Valentine’s day (or Galentine’s day for all the single ladies!) you don’t have to feel stuck in a wardrobe funk! I hope you’ve left with some helpful ideas and inspiration!
Frugal Tip: Resist the urge to buy something new for a special occasion, and just reinvent what’s already in your closet!
This week's look is an outfit designed for a more extravagent date night! One where it's perfectly ok to throw on some heels and get a little fancy. The lace shift dress is definitely the focal point of the look! Since it is Valentine's day, I couldn't say no to a little red. Haha. I paired it with a nude heel to make the red pop, along with a sparkly collar necklace and earrings. I have to add, the dress was such a steal! Got it online at the LOFT during one of their special seasonal sales a few weeks back, for only $15, originally $118!
Lace Shift Dress - $15 The Loft (originally $118)
BCBG Nude Peep-toe Heels- $18 T.J. Maxx
Crystal Bib Necklace - $14.95 Forever 21
