The inspiration for this week's post came from my Easter dress this year! I LOVED my dress and was basically obsessed with it. Haha. I hadn't worn this shade of lilac in a long time, so I was a little bit unsure of how it would go. The color was so cheery, I didn't want to take it off! It inspired me to reach outside of my normal color comfort zone and seek out more dresses and pieces in the pastel palette.Read More

After surviving Snowmageddon 2017 earlier this week, the thought of spring and warmer weather is hard to wrap my mind around. I feel like this year will be one of those years when we go straight from winter to summer with only a few weeks of spring. With that being said, spring is one of my favorite seasons, fashion wise! I love being able to branch out and shed the winter layers. Putting away the bulky sweaters and replacing them with florals and fun shades just brings such life! Spring fashion brings a great energy and excitement that I always look forward to.
Spring fashion has a few trademark looks that always seem to stick around, florals, pastels, and feminine pieces. However, each year there seems to be a little twist and update added to the current trends. For those wanting to embrace spring fashion and stay on top of trends, I decided to create a post that sums up some of the best trends to look for this season!
Top Spring Fashion Trends
I love LOVE ruffles! This love affair probably started as a child. You can ask my mother! Dresses were my go-to daily outfits, and the rufflier the better! Ruffles add such a feminine touch to any outfit. Ruffle tops are definitely in for spring and add such character to any outfit!
2. Fun Sleeves!
Fun sleeves has been a trend that has been around since fall, and it's not going anywhere! This is also a great trend that I'm in love with! Bell sleeves are just the start! This spring you'll see a ton of different tops with ALL kinds of sleeves. I love the sleeves with unique draping and accent bows. Off the shoulder tops are also sticking around this season! Pairing a top with fun sleeves with a simple pair of jeans, creates a perfect spring look!
3. White white!
Usually the spring time is all about colors! This spring is no different, color is definitely in! However, one of this season's trends is white everything! Tops, bottoms, jackets, dresses, you name it! There's a crispness that white gives to any look. As a fashionista you want to look as fresh as possibly this spring!
4. Lace-up everything!
Laces were definitely a trend this fall that is sticking around. For the spring, they are taking on a new life. A little bit more feminine and not so edgy. You'll find laces on all sorts of pieces. Anything from shoes to tops! For spring, I'm loving lace up tops with tassel details.
5. And of course floral!
You can't enjoy spring fashion without a good floral print! Florals are always in for spring. Each season they are reinvented in a new way. This season seems to be all about large bold floral prints. Steer away from subtle or smaller prints. Light and airy pastel florals are on trend. So be on the look out for fun tops to mix and match with different looks!
This week's look is inspired by some of my favorite spring fashion trends! As you might have noticed, I have a slight obsession with off-the-shoulder tops. :) So naturally I found a way to incorporate one into this outfit! I love the freshness of white for spring and the fun sleeve trend, so I love how this top from the LOFT incorporates both! Even though it IS spring, I couldn't get away from an edgy pair of black ripped jeans. ;) I like the look of incorporating a feminine top and an edgier pair of pants. I accessorized the look with suede neutral lace-up sandals and a simple gold collar necklace to accentuate the fun neckline of this top!

Even though it might still be FREEZING outside, I've got spring on my mind! We still have piles on PILES of snow melting here in NYC! (I hope that'll be the last of that white stuff!) With spring around the corner, I hope all my fashionistas are feeling equipped and in the know about some of this season's hottest trends! The great thing is, most of these trends have been around and are just slightly reinvented! So for the frugal gals out there, this can mean just piecing together items already in your closet in a new and fresh way!
Here's to hoping spring comes soon loves!
March. The time of the year when the earth is confused as to what season it is. Haha. One day it's 70 degrees, the next it's 30 degrees and snowing! With this bipolar weather comes a constant dilemma of what to wear! The weather can be so unpredictable during this time of the year and consequently our wardrobe can be rather confused.
One of the best ways to tackle being fashionable during these early months of spring is by dressing in layers! Layers, layers, layers! I am a sucker for the layered look! So dressing in the fall and spring are always fun. This post is all about how about how to master the layered look without looking frumpy or like the Michelin man. :)
How to Master the Layered Look:
1. Pick different textures!
When creating a layered look you want to created dimension with all the different pieces involved. Layering cotton over cotton over cotton, just doesn't work and the look will fall flat. When wearing multiple articles of clothing you want to create diversity in pieces that make the outfit more interesting. So incorporating a knit with cotton, flannel, jean, and silk or polyester is a definite YES!
2. Use a variety of pieces!
You don't always have to stick to a certain "genre" of clothing. Feel free to mix and match casual, dressy, and career pieces. Just like using different textures, using a variety of pieces adds interest and dimension. It also spices it up for yourself and opens up the options for layering. You can pair a work button up with a pair of leggings and an oversized sweater, or a silk blouse with a flannel and ripped jeans. Mix and match styles for the perfect look!
3. Don't bulk up.
Creating a perfect layered look can be tricky. It takes skill and thought! It seems like it would be as simple as throwing a bunch of different pieces together and walking out the door but its not! The worst outcome would be an outfit that resembles a lumpy marshmallow. Yikes. Try and be careful as to the amount and types of articles you layer. I would say 3-4 pieces max. And steer clear of sweaters on sweaters!
Before this week's outfit it had been a wild weather week! From 70 degrees all the way to 25 degrees! INSANE! The perfect layered look was great for a sunny but chilly March day. I decided to go ALL IN with mixing and matching different styles and pieces. I wanted to create a cozy look that still had a dash of edge and spunk. I decided to start with a long sleeve ruffle blouse that I would normally wear with trousers to work and then layer on a jean shirt, topped with an oversized sweater. I paired these tops with ripped jeans and some heeled suede, gold buckle booties that I got for a great price at Marshall's. For accessories, I added a wool brim hat for a touch of warmth and sparkly tassel pendant. Although it was a bit chilly, these stylish layers kept me cozy and comfortable! Plus, I got SO many compliments on the outfit throughout the day!

Here's to hoping for more spring weather!
